My last blog was about using food that can last weeks following the Apocalypse.
What if I told you about pizza that could last up to 3 years! Natick labs appear to have won the hearts and minds of the US Army by inventing it as an alternative to regular MREs. They use combinations of different substances such as salt and sugar among other ingredients as humectants – substances that prevent the moisture of meat and tomato from passing into the pizza dough.
I guess the biggest question, still unanswered by the target audience – the army – yet as it isn’t yet available, is ‘how does it taste?’
My biggest concern is that with all these humectants in it, will what the soldiers ask for most of all be the death of them? careful what you wish for.
As far as the ZA is concerned, I guess quality still isn’t the main worry so if you find a box of them, use them sparingly!
